Fatty Mart - Mar Vista

Formerly known as GRAND VIEW MARKET. The market was focused on serving Local Favorites. Ranging from All-Day Breakfast and Organic Coffee to Beer/Wine Service and live music shows. Today Fatty Mart is the brain child of Chef David Kuo. Chef Kuo has been considering the world of packaged goods and takeout somewhat seriously for years now, and he’s dreamed for nearly as long that he’d be able to share some of his findings with a culturally curious audience. Fatty Mart is the culmination of all those thoughts and dreams, a multi-hyphenate space that pushes far beyond Taiwanese food or grocery fare to become — if Kuo has his way — one of the coolest culinary incubators and retail spaces anywhere in the city.

The Design, Bitches team (Verve, Button Mash, Superba) and Curato built a space with flow and intention, ringed at the edges by hot bar stations filled with Mexican food at the Juntos stand, Korean dishes at K Fatty, Vietnamese options, American staples at Pizza and Deli, and beyond, all compiled by Kuo and culinary director James Lai (Republique).

Benny Boy Brewing - Lincoln Heights (DTLA)

As the first combination brewery/cidery in LA, Benny Boy will also be the only brewery in Lincoln Heights. Benny Boy’s has plenty of room for group hangouts, with its 3,200 square feet of indoor and outdoor space. Curato Design-Build oversaw the construction, restoring the building’s 1920s bow truss ceiling and installing a 55-foot bar from reclaimed wood. Drinkers can actually see the production equipment while seated at the bar. A reconstructed tree from the apple orchard lies on the premises, as does a mural from LA street artist Shandu One. The outdoor area separates the two buildings that house the cidery and brewery with comfy seating areas.

The subject property is currently a Class C warehouse industrial property with office space and a mezzanine level. Ventana Ventures and CURATO Design Build will be converting the space for its new owners into a medical office building with 15 exam rooms, a large open waiting room, six private offices, and plenty of cubicle space for office support staff.

Financed with bank execution, PSRS was able to secure for its borrower a six-year term with one year of interest only during the construction period.


Border x Brewery

Border X Brewing - City of Bell - Completed March 2019, Sold 2022

The project includes two buildings located in the City of Bell.

The 7,000 sf building became home to Border X Brewing in March of 2019. The Border X Brewing development is located on 4400 Gage Avenue. The project is expected serve as a catalyst for the development of a "Downtown Bell" environment, and create redevelopment momentum along the Gage corridor.
